Ideal Weekend as a Homebody

Hi friends!

Brrrr!

I’d imagine that many of you experienced, to some degree, being iced in or snowed in this past weekend. Dallas was hit with sheets of ice and flurries of snow, and honestly—it was the most ideal weekend for a homebody like myself. If you’re anything like me and enjoy being cozy at home for days on end, keep reading to see how this homebody spent her ideal snowed-in weekend❄️

This weekend, we had two friends stay with us, which made the snow and ice storm even more fun. On Saturday, we spent most of the day playing games and watching movies. When I think of a snowy, cozy day, my mind immediately goes to watching Harry Potter or Narnia—anyone else?

We watched Harry Potter, and it was the absolute epitome of coziness. Throughout the day, we had a continuous rotation of card games and board games going. Hours were spent laughing around our kitchen table while playing Ticket to Ride and Skip-Bo. Truly, 10/10 recommend inviting friends to stay with you during a snowstorm!

While I rarely had the itch to leave the house, during the moments I did, I took advantage of our pristine white neighborhood roads. Bundled in layers, I went on a few peaceful walks and saw couples strolling hand in hand and dogs trotting through the snow. It was all so blissful and pure!!

After our friends left, Andy and I leaned into the slowness around our Hydrangea House (our coined name for our home). I started and finished a book this weekend that I simply couldn’t put down. If you enjoy books with thrills, mystery, love interests, and major plot twists, I highly recommend The Inheritance Games series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I read the first trilogy when it came out during college and finally started the second trilogy this weekend—just as good as the first. I finished the first book and am already halfway through the second. Needless to say, I don’t know what I’ll do while waiting for the final book to be released this summer…

Some of my favorite moments of peace this weekend were spent with snowy ambience and soft jazz music filling our living room with warmth and joy. With a candle lit, our living room became the place I wanted to be all weekend long. I read here, journaled here, and Andy and I watched movies here. If you’re a homebody, cultivating your space to be somewhere you genuinely want to be is so important. I could sit in our living room forever because I’ve curated it to feel calming, restful, and truly homey!

Being at home also means trying new recipes! Whether we were cooking for friends or just the two of us, the kitchen was truly the heart of our home this weekend. Writing this post is even giving me ideas for a future blog post all about curating your home to be a place you love—would anyone be interested?

Some of the recipes we made included my mom’s taco soup (a winter staple in our house), edible cookie dough (a must for any sweet tooth), classic chicken noodle soup, my famous grilled cheese (which received rave reviews from our friends), and a creamy parmesan soup that Andy immediately requested be added to our weekly rotation—clearly a hit! I truly enjoy learning new recipes and cooking for others in our home. It brings me a sense of purpose and adds to the deep enjoyment I feel within our space!

I hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into my ideal weekend as a homebody during a snowstorm. I hope everyone stayed safe and warm! It feels like many more blog posts are coming around curating your home and embracing a slower pace of life. You can find more snippets of my life over on TikTok and Instagram ❄️❄️❄️
